Ultra Fast Broadband Update

Further Update on Ultra-Fast Broadband in the Parish

I am incredibly pleased to report that Openreach has declared that our application to bring ultra-fast and reliable Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) broadband to our area is viable. Last week, they submitted our application to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) for financial support via the Gigabyte Broadband Voucher Scheme.

We now await confirmation from DCMS that they will provide vouchers for our scheme, which – if they do – will generate matched funding from Hampshire County Council. Once this happens, Openreach will start planning installation, which – by law – must be complete within twelve months of the vouchers’ approval.

It has required a huge effort by many people in the Parish and others connected to the Owslebury Exchange to get us this far. We owe these ‘volunteers’ an enormous vote of thanks, and I will ensure we do so properly when we can get back to The Ship in ‘normal’ times.

We will send a separate message to all those who have signed up to the FTTP scheme, giving details of the next steps, when we know more from DCMS. If you are asked to respond to certain questions, please do so quickly. We will be up against a deadline.

If you have not yet signed up to the scheme, and would like to do so, please email Juanita Madgwick, Clerk to Owslebury Parish Council, on with name, address and home phone number as soon as possible. It is not too late for those in the area covered by the application, but your time is running out!

Finally, I wish to record my thanks to you all for helping Owslebury Parish develop and progress this plan. It has been a wonderful team effort, especially during COVID . We remain hopeful it will come to fruition and have no doubt it will significantly benefit the whole area.
