Do you have a passion for good food and an interest in local history? Then enjoy a food packed evening at the Hampshire Record Office: History on a plate: What our ancestors ate.
On Tuesday, July 8, between 7.30 and 9pm you can indulge in a range of locally produced fabulously tasty treats while learning about what our ancestors ate with different films and photos on show.
The event is being held as part of the Hampshire Food Festival and will include archive film footage from the collections of the Wessex Film and Sound Archive and exhibitions of historical photographs and other documents from the Hampshire Archives and Local Studies collections illustrating the history of food and food production in Hampshire through the ages.
Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Recreation, Heritage and Communities, Councillor Margaret Snaith, commented on the event: “This sounds like a great evening for people to celebrate the food of Hampshire.
“Local food suppliers will be setting up shop in the Record Office, selling their wares including mouth-watering, locally produced preserves and confectionary. Le Salon du Chocolate will have a selection of their finest treats on display while Winton Women’s Institute will also be running a cake stall of their delicious creations and staff from Bursledon Mill will be providing some of its stone-ground flour, produced just as it was in the 19th century.”
Tickets for the evening cost £6 for adults, £3 for children and £5 for Friends of Hampshire Fare. Advanced booking is required, contact Hampshire Record Office on 01962 846154, enquiries.archives@hants.gov.uk or go to http://www.hants.gov.uk/archives
