The official statement prepared by the Vicar and the wardens of all four parishes, and generally circulated is:
The Church Commissioners signed an Instrument, on the 16th June, which brought the New Benefice of Twyford and Owslebury and Morestead and Colden Common legally into being on the 1st July 2008.
The first incumbent of the United Benefice is the Revd. Andrew Millar who is currently the incumbent of Colden Common.
The New Benefice will take effect on the ground with a Service to celebrate its inauguration led by the Rt. Rev. Trevor Willmott, the Bishop of Basingstoke, on:
Monday September 8th at 7.45 pm
at St. Andrew’s Owslebury.
The Service will be preceded by prayers offered in each of the Churches starting at:
Owslebury at 5.45pm, Colden Common and 6.15pm, Twyford at 6.45pm and Morestead at 7.15 pm,
by the Bishop, Wardens and Clergy, to which all are invited.
The Service will be followed by refreshments in Owslebury Village Hall.
The wardens and clergy have met together to plan the Service, in consultation with the Bishop, and discuss arrangements to enable the parishes to work together in harmony.
Each individual parish of the New United Benefice remains a distinct parish in its own right with the responsibility for running its own affairs but with the opportunity to work with the other Churches and share resources to further God’s mission for the area.
